Janet Hiles Brett, Au.D., CCC-A
President & Founder
Janet Hiles Brett is the President and Owner of Hanover Audiology. Established in 2012, Hanover Audiology is the only private audiology practice in Hanover County, Virginia, serving Mechanicsville and its surrounding communities.
Dr. Brett received her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology Education and her Master’s degree in Communication Disorders, both from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. She took part in a Graduate Audiology Externship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, before going on to complete graduate coursework in Gerontology at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Dr. Brett then earned her Doctor of Audiology degree from A.T. Still University of the Arizona School of Health Services in Mesa.
With a clear focus on providing professional and personalized hearing health care for patients of all age groups, Dr. Brett utilizes all of the skills obtained in her 31 years of experience in the field. Her specialties include comprehensive rehabilitative services, including hearing aid assessment, hearing tests and conservation, and follow-up care. Prior to founding Hanover Audiology, she served as a Clinical and Dispensing Audiologist in various clinical settings: Trauma I Level hospital and a busy ENT practice, both in the greater Richmond area. Dr. Brett also has a unique insight and understanding of hearing aids, as she had worked over 7 years in the manufacturing side of the industry as a professional consultant, trainer and account manager. Being able to offer and service THE widest selection of brands and models of hearing aids to her patients is very important to Dr. Brett. She also participates with several networks and discount groups affiliated with various health insurance companies to ensure that patients will receive not only the best service, but also the best price.
Active in the professional audiology community, Dr. Brett has taken part in various local, regional and national conferences, conventions and seminars. She has also contributed to a number of professional presentations and publications on audiologic topics, including hearing loss and recent advances in hearing aids.
Dr. Brett currently holds membership in several professional organizations, including the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, Academy of Rehabilitative Auditory Society, Academy of Doctors of Audiology, Educational Audiology Association and National Hearing Conservation Association. She is also a charter member of the American Academy of Audiology.
James Brett, B.S., HIS-A
Jim, retired from the U.S. Army with a rank of Master Sergeant, has been with Hanover Audiology since 2012 and has several additional roles within the practice: Audiology Assistant, an apprentice in Hearing Instrument Sciences, as well as the General Business Manager.
Jim received a Certificate in Administration of Justice and his Associate in Applied Science (graduated Cum Laude) from Piedmont Virginia Community College in 2000. He was awarded with a Bachelor in Science from Old Dominion University in 2007. Jim is very passionate about educating the public about hearing loss and hearing protection. Ensuring prompt customer service is his number one priority. Jim is a member the American Legion, a member of the Elks Lodge, a lifetime member of the VFW, and a member of the International Hearing Society.
Shawn Bryar, B.S., NBC-HIS
Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist & Audiology Assistant
Shawn attended school at Colorado Christian University (and represented the top 10% of his graduating class) with a Bachelors of Science in Organizational Management with a Human Resource emphasis. He also attended BYU (in Idaho) with an Associates in Science for Business and Marketing. A favorite part of his job working at Hanover Audiologist is meeting people from all over the world and learning the fascinating life stories of his patients. Shawn enjoys spending time with his wife and kids. He also enjoys cars as a pastime; everything from collecting different models and driving them.
Shawn also enjoys snowboarding, dancing (he has danced in many competitions and has never lost one he has entered), traveling and visiting new places, enjoys going to the range and learning about new hearing aid technologies that would help improve the quality of his patient's life. He is a forward thinker and a self-motivator. He is always seeking self-improvement through education and experience and putting those skills in helping others.

Lisa Henry, B.S.
Lisa attended school at VCU and graduated with a B.S. in Mathematics with an emphasis in Statistics. Her favorite part of the job is meeting new people, and helping others to achieve their goal. She is likely the first person that you will meet when you come in to the door. Lisa is eager to answer any questions, lend a hand or to help solve any problems you may have. She handles all the insurance claims and billing. She fights hard to ensure patient's rights and their benefits from their insurance companies are followed through. She also manages the day-to-day operations of the practice. Lisa loves seeing the smiles on our patients faces when they can hear better and realize all the sounds they has been missing.
Lisa enjoys tennis, dancing, bowling and going to the beach with her family. Lisa loves to dance & enjoys listening to just about every genre of music.
Lisa has been with Hanover Audiology since 2015 and handles all aspects of patient care, from welcoming new patients, to providing ancillary assistance to the Audiologist and the Hearing Aid Specialist. Lisa is happily married for 27 years. She has 3 beautiful ragdoll cats, one son and a new daughter-in-law.
